Research Interests
I search for "bursts" of gravitational waves using the LIGO detectors. These ripples in space-time should come from stellar explosions (supernovaes, colliding black holes, etc.) but have never been detected. I am driven by the opportunity to be amongst the first to see these "unseen" phenomena. I develop detection software and use super-computers like the Pleiades GRID at Penn State to tease the tiny signals of these waves from the LIGO data.
A new project for me is to use the gamma-ray burst signals from the just-launched Swift satellite operated by Penn State to find associated gravitational-wave bursts in the LIGO data.
