Welcome to the home page of the 4TH International LISA Symposium.

    The Fourth International LISA Symposium will be held 19-24 July 2002 at the Penn Stater Conference Center in State College, Pennsylvania. LISA - or Laser Interferometer Space Antenna - is a joint European Space Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration project to place a high sensitivity gravitational wave detector in space. Like its predecessors, this Symposium will bring together world experts in space technology and gravitational waves and their detection to discuss LISA's current status and future prospects. Discussed at the workshop will be the astrophysics of the sources that drive the LISA science mission, including black hole coalescence and binary system evolution, LISA technology, including the forthcoming SMART-II and ST-7 technology demonstration missions, and LISA data analysis issues. A special effort will be made in this Symposium to place LISA in the broader context of gravitational wave astronomy in the 2012 timeframe.
